Tour to Bosnia’s Highest Peak - Maglic Mountain

Day 1: A a scenic two hour drive from Sarajevo towards the Montenegrin border to the southeast we arrive at the panoramic view of the rare, lush, virgin woodlands of Perucica Forest and 'Grasshopper' waterfall (85m.). The surrounding snow-capped mountains of Volujak tower around us as we head towards Prijevor Pass at 1,600m. From there the highest point in Bosnia, Maglic Mountain, jolts out from the east and greets us with jagged rock faces that peak at 2,386 meters. A comfortable 2.5 hour hike leads us to Trnovacko Lake where we will set camp before taking a dip. The surrounding valleys are great for wandering into the evening hours as you prepare for the ascent Bosnia’s highest peak in the morning.

Day 2: We start early up the steep slopes of Maglic’s southeastern face. The lake gets tinier and tinier as we traverse up the to the high ridge that will lead us to Maglic’s peak. It’s a good four hour ascent to the countries highest point. We’ll have lunch on top before scrambling down to the lake for a rest and to pack before we head back up the trail to our jeep. It’s a long and demanding day, but well worth the effort.
For the duration of the trip we may encounter the vast range of wildlife that roams this untamed land. Eagles, bears, wolves, snakes, and wild goats are not rare sightings in these parts.
